12 Gentian, Gentiana amarella
Guiding principle: UNCERTAINTY - Discontented
About this herb:
Scientific name: Gentiana amarella
Description:
(Northern) Gentian is a genus of flowering plants belonging to the Gentian family (Gentianaceae). Gentian reaches a height of 9 inches and is found in lime-rich soil, dry, hilly pastures and in dunes. There are many different types of gentian; however, for Bach flowers, only bitter gentian (Northern gentian) is employed. Gentian is a biennial plant. The five-petaled purple/violet flowers blossom from August to the beginning of October.
The aims of this flower essence:
One has a pessimistic basic attitude. One reacts sceptically, with doubts, with a slight discouragement.
Dr. Bach wrote:
Are you one of those with high ideals, with hopes of doing good; who find yourself discouraged when your ambitions are not quickly realised? When success is in your path are you elated, but when difficulties occur easily depressed?
If so, the little Gentian of our hilly pastures will help you to keep your firmness of purpose, and a happier and more hopeful outlook even when the sky is over-cast. It will bring you encouragement at all times, and the understanding that there is no failure when you are doing your utmost, whatever the apparent result.
(Free Thyself, 1932)
Those who are easily discouraged. They may be progressing well in illness, or in the affairs of their daily life, but any small delay or hindrance to progress causes doubt and soon disheartens them. (The 12 Healers and other remedies, 1936)
